About The RSSDirectories.com Website
rssdirectories.com is a website dedicated to maintaining an accurate, curated list of current and active RSS feed submission web directory sites for bloggers, news syndicators and podcasters. It's run by Russell T. Bear dba MacGizmoGuy who's been publishing on the internet since it was even possible in the 1980s - Before web browsers or search engines like Google or Bing even existed. The Good: Automatic Content Distribution
Really Simple Syndication - RSS is an XML-based file format (a web feed specification) that lets your site publish a structured, machine-readable list of your latest content at a fixed URL. Feed readers, aggregator sites and other software fetch that file over ordinary HTTP and check it for updates, which is how subscribers are notified and can retrieve your lastest posts or new podcast episodes in any feed reader app.TIP: You want your RSS feed URL(s) everywhere they can get seen!
RSS has been around for over a quarter of a century, conceived in the late 1990s. Web RSS syndication became very popular in the early 2000s as web blogs became commonplace an many blogging platforms integrated automatic generation of XML feed URL that could automatically share your latest content to your readership. Podcasting boosted the rise of RSS because it's the core underlying format to automatically distribute new podcast episodes for over 20 years.
The Bad, Often Broken Directory Scene
The early rise of RSS led to an explosion of Blog and Web RSS directories to help make your feed discoverable to a broader audience. Google and others embraced XML and RSS syndication initally. The Bad came as far too many directories failed to maintain their listings and remove dead, decayed links to broken 404 unreachable sites. That failed to serve visitors well, and the search engines hate stuff like that. The bad continues to this day - and I'm out to stop that with the rssdirectories.com website: There are far too many blog posts and articles filled with outdated junk lists of 100 or more RSS directory submission sites that no longer exist.
The Ugly Destruction Of The RSS Directory Ecosystem
The ugly part began when Google realized that RSS was delivering relevant content directly to users through their feed reader or podcast apps -- without having to visit Google at all to find it.Google systematically began deprecating their support of RSS syndication and discovery by letting their own FeedBurner service decay, and in the 2010's began declaring war on RSS directory sites. They began shoving feed directories out of their top search rankings into obscurity. Some directories were outright deindexed and disappeared within a single day.
The Unkown Yet More Open Future Of RSS!
There is a recent resurgence and interest in RSS largely driven by a shift to The Open web, the Indie Web, and the Fediverse. Along with it comes a renewed interest in both the few legacy RSS directories big enough to survive Google's wrath, and new directories that Developers and Webmasters keep launching - regardless of what Google thinks. There's also a new wave of often AI-Enhanced RSS feed reader apps that make the feeds you like following easily discoverable and searchable to other users. Most feed reader apps don't do that, but that's changing. In effect, some feed readers now function like community submitted, crowdsourced RSS directories that help Webmasters, Bloggers and Podcasters achieve more visibility. They're building their own feed search engines into a new generation of feed reader apps.
There's also a re-emergence of new web RSS directory sites and apps to replace and rebuild on the scorched landscape that Google left in it's wake and did its best to destroy.
RSSDirectories.com Commitment To The Open Web
I'm committed to maintaining a short but carefully vetted list of active and working RSS feed directories that can help you get immediate visibility for your content or podcasts. If any of the recommended directories suddenly disappear - or fail to deliver meaningful visibility - they will be removed promptly so that nobody wastes their time. I welcome any directory additions or corrections to anything on this site.
